FAQ’s

How do I buy a ticket?

A: We won’t be selling tickets directly. We’ll be taking applications from people who’d like to attend, selecting an audience that represents the demographics of Orange and offering those people a ticket.

How can I apply for a ticket to TEDxOrange?

A: Applications to be part of the audience will open on Monday 12 October 2015 and will be done through this website.

How can I maximise my chances of getting tickets to TEDxOrange?

A: When applications open, don’t wait around. Apply! Tell us what makes you an interesting person to have in our audience. If you have a fascinating conversation with the people either side of you, then we’ve achieved our goal. If you aren’t at TEDxOrange in person this year, please consider hosting a TEDxLive event on the day.

How do you choose who gets to attend TEDxOrange?

A: Our organising committee reads all applications and selects audience members who reflect our community and will spread the ideas from the day. We won’t assess applications from people we know – no bias!

Why are you only letting 100 people attend?

A: We’d love to have more, but TEDx will only let us have 100. That’s why we’ve focused as much money and energy on TEDxLive as we have on the conference itself.

How do I get to be a speaker?

A: Applications to be speak at TEDxOrange will open on Monday 7 September and will be done through this website. Our organising committee will assess all applications, give a first cut to an independent selection committee who will assess de-identified applications. They will return a final selection of speakers to the Organising Committee. If you don’t get to speak this year, please consider hosting a TEDxLive event on the day and apply again next year.

How much do tickets cost?

A: TEDxOrange tickets are $100. We’re asking you to pay for a ticket to help us cover some of the cost of producing the event. We hope you’ll agree the price is great value for a fully- catered day of top-notch speakers and performers that you just won’t see anywhere else.

What if I can’t afford a ticket?

A: There will be five free tickets reserved for people on low incomes and five half price tickets for tertiary students. The application form lets you tell us if you are eligible for a free or half price ticket. If you don’t get to attend this year, please consider hosting a TEDxLive event on the day.

Can couples, families and groups attend?

A: Because tickets are limited, we don’t cater for groups. We’d rather you used TEDxOrange as a chance to mix with new people who have new ideas, then share them with family and friends. If you want to enjoy TEDxOrange with family and friends, please consider hosting a TEDxLive event on the day.

I would like to get involved. Do you need volunteers?

A: We’ve been so lucky – there has been loads of interest from the community and our volunteer list is full. Please get in touch with us next year.

What is an idea worth spreading?

A: Ideas worth spreading use evidence or observations to draw a larger conclusion. They are either:

  • Something new and surprising – an idea or invention that our audience has never heard about.
  • A great basic idea (that the audience has maybe already heard) with a compelling new argument behind it that challenges existing beliefs and perspectives.

Is anything off limits at TEDx?

A: Yes. Speakers can’t have commercial, religious or political agendas. TEDx events do not accept sponsorship from businesses associated with weapons or ammunition, tobacco or the sex industry.
